1 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea.
2 And great crowds gathered about him, so that he got into a boat and sat there; and the whole crowd stood on the beach.
3 And he told them many things in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow.
4 And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.
5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they had not much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil,
6 but when the sun rose they were scorched; and since they had no root they withered away.
7 Other seeds fell upon thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them.
8 Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
9 He who has ears, let him hear."
10 Then the disciples came and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?"
11 And he answered them, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
12 For to him who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
13 This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
14 With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says: 'You shall indeed hear but never understand, and you shall indeed see but never perceive.
15 For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should perceive with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn for me to heal them.'
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
17 Truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
18 "Hear then the parable of the sower.
19 When any one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in his heart; this is what was sown along the path.
20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is he who hears the word and understands it; he indeed bears fruit, and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty."

Matthêu 13,1-23
1 Hôm ấy, Đức Giêsu từ trong nhà đi ra ngồi ở ven Biển Hồ.
2 Có đám đông lớn tụ họp bên Người, nên Người phải xuống thuyền mà ngồi, còn toàn thể đám đông thì đứng trên bờ.
3 Người dùng dụ ngôn mà nói với họ nhiều điều. Người nói : "Kìa người gieo giống ra đi gieo giống.
4 Trong khi người ấy gieo,thì có những hạt rơi xuống vệ đường, chim chóc đến ăn mất.
5 Có những hạt rơi trên sỏi đá, chổ không có nhiều đất; nó mọc ngay, vì đất không sâu;
6 nhưng khi nắng lên, nó liền bị cháy, và vì thiếu rể nên bị chết khô.
7 Có những hạt rơi vào bụi gai, gai mọc lên làm nó chết nghẹt.
8 Có những hạt lại rơi nhằm đất tốt, nên sinh hoa kết quả: hạt được gâp trăm, hạt được sáu chục, hạt được ba chục.
9 Ai có tai thì nghe".
10 Các môn đệ đến gần hỏi Đức Giêsu rằng: "Sao Thầy lại dùng dụ ngôn mà nói với họ?
11 Người đáp: "Bởi vì anh em thì được ơn hiểu biết các mầu nhiệm Nước Trời, còn họ thì không.
12 Ai đã có thì được cho thêm, và sẽ có thừa; còn ai không có, thì ngay cái đang có, cũng sẽ bị lấy mất.
13 Bởi thế, nếu Thầy dùng dụ ngôn mà nói với họ, là vì họ nhìn mà không nhìn, nghe mà không nghe không hiểu
14 Thế là đối với họ đã ứng nghiệm lời sấm của ngôn sứ I-sai-a, rằng: Các ngươi có lắng tai nghe cũng chẳng hiểu, có trố mắt nhìn cũng chẳng thấy.
15 Vì lòng dân này đã ra đần độn, chúng đã nặng tai, còn mắt thì chúng nhắm lại, kẻo mắt chúng thấy, tai chúng nghe, và lòng hiểu được mà hoán cải, và rồi Ta sẽ chữa chúng cho lành.
16 "Còn anh em, mắt anh em thật có phúc vì được thấy, tai anh em thật có phúc, vì được nghe.
17 Quả thế, Thầy bảo thật anh em. nhiều ngôn sứ và nhiều người công chính đã mong mỏi thấy điều anh em đang thấy, mà không được thấy, nghe điều anh em đang nghe , mà không nghe.
18 "Vậy anh em hãy nghe dụ ngôn người gieo giống.
19 Hễ ai nghe lời rao giảng Nước Trời mà không hiểu, thì quỵ dử đến cướp đi điều đã gieo trong lòng người ấy: đó là kẻ đã được gieo bên vệ đường.
20 Còn kẻ được gieo trên nơi sỏi đá, đó là kẻ nghe Lời và liền vui vẻ đón nhận.
21 Nhưng nó không đâm rể mà là kẻ nhất: khi gặp gian nan hay bị ngược đãi vì Lời, nó vấp ngã ngay.
22 Còn kẻ được gieo vào bụi gai, đó là kẻ nghe lời, nhưng nỗi lo lắng sự đời, và bả vinh quang phú quý bóp nghẹt, khiến Lời không sinh hoa kết quả gì
23 Còn kẻ được gieo trên đất tốt, đó là kẻ nghe Lời và hiểu, thì tất nhiên sinh hoa kết quả và làm ra, kẻ được gấp trăm, kẻ được sáu chục, kẻ được ba chục".
Interesting Details

• Despite the traditional title as the parable of "the sower", the real focus is on the seeds and their respective yields.
• The assumption is that all the seeds are good, the problem is the type of soil in which the seeds have been sown.
• There is a clear contrast between the ideal disciples who accept and understand the word against those who neither accept nor act upon Jesus' preaching for various reasons: evil activity, personal shallowness, worldly concerns, or desire for wealth.
• According to the traditional Palestinian farming practices, sowing often precedes plowing. We can assume that the sower intended to come back and plow the seeds into the soil. Nevertheless when the seeds already fall on the bad soil they still cannot yield fruitfully even with plowing.
• Mt 13:1-52 features seven parables, the subject matter of the parables is the kingdom of heaven. Every parable except the parable of the sower begins with the phrase: "The kingdom of heaven is like..." However the parable of the sower also clearly shows responses to the kingdom of heaven.

Chi Tiết Hay

• Mặc dầu truyền thống vẫn gọi đề tài của dụ ngôn là "người gieo giống," nhưng chủ yếu là hạt giống và những hoa lợi thu hoạch được.
• Hạt giống tất nhiên hoàn hảo, đất để gieo mới là vấn đề.
• Có một sự khác biệt rõ ràng giữa các tông đồ lý tưởng đón nhận và hiểu Lời Chúa, và những kẻ không đón nhận hoặc hành động theo lời Chúa Giêsu dạy vì nhiều lý do: ma quỵ, hời hợt, lo lắng sự đời và vinh quang phú quý.
• Theo truyền thống canh nông của người Palestine thời đó, gieo giống thường trước khi cày. Vì vậy người gieo giống có thể sẽ trở lại để cày cho hạt giống cắm sâu xuống đất. Tuy nhiên khi hạt giống đã rơi vào đất xấu thì dầu có cày cũng vẫn không thâu hoạch được gì.
• Chương 13 (Mt 13:1-52) trong Phúc Âm thánh Matthêu gồm có bảy dụ ngôn, chủ yếu là giải thích về Nước Trời. Mỗi dụ ngôn đều bắt đầu bằng câu: "Nước Trời giống như..." ngoại trừ dụ ngôn người gieo giống. Dầu vậy dụ ngôn người gieo giống cũng cùng một chủ đích là trình bày những lối đáp trả của mỗi người về Nước Trời.

One Main Point
The word of the Lord is the seed, our hearts and minds are the soil. The good spiritual yield in life depends on how much a person willingly accepts and responds to the word of the Lord. The yield arising from the positive response will be abundant beyond all imagination.

Lời Chúa là hạt giống, tâm trí chúng ta là đất để gieo. Thành quả tốt đẹp trong đời sống tinh thần tùy thuộc thiện chí mỗi người đáp lại tiếng Chúa. Kết quả gặt hái từ thái độ tích cực đáp trả thì dồi dào ngoài sức tưởng tượng.

1. Deep down in my heart, where do I fit in with the four types of soil in the parable? What are the reasons?
2. In order to let Jesus' word yield abundantly in my spiritual life, what changes do I have to make in my relationship to God and to others, in my interest, and in my career?
3. Imagine I am attending a Sunday's Mass, a priest is delivering a sermon as a sower is sowing the seeds, my ear and my mind is listening to the word as the soil is receiving the seeds. Am I prepared to receive the word? How much do I absorb? Do I still vividly remember the word after leaving the Mass? A week after? How can I become the good soil ready to receive the word?

1. Tự đáy lòng mình, tôi thuộc loại người nào trong bốn loại đất đề cập trong dụ ngôn? Vì lý do gì?
2. Để Lời Chúa sinh hoa kết quả dồi dào trong đời sống tinh thần, tôi cần thay đổi những gì trong liên hệ với Chúa và tha nhân, trong sở thích, trong nghề nghiệp.
